A debut track called “Toxic Nirvana” has caught the attention of major artists like deadmau5 and Flume, and the producer of the track is only 11-years-old. His name is Rhys Toms aka Black Summer, and resides in Australia where “Toxic Nirvana” was recently featured on the radio show ‘Triple J Unearthed’. The interest in the track shows the potential of this young dance music artist.
“We’ve had comments like ‘Oh yeah, 11-year-old producer using sample packs, and mum and dad are helping him’, and we don’t have a clue how to operate what he uses” said Toms’ father.
Artists are subject to criticism on a regular basis, but it hasn’t affected Toms. “Some people say, ‘Oh, this person’s better, the beats don’t sound good enough’ and stuff, but eh, just remember I’m 11-years-old” says Toms. Great attitude, and we’re looking forward to future Black Summer productions.
UPDATE: Rhys Toms aka Black Summer played his first set at Groovin The Moo festival in Canberra, Australia on May 3rd! The young producer had a quick 10 minute set between San Cisco and Carmada where he dropped his original track “Toxic Nirvana”. Early reviews of his first set were positive, and we’re looking forward to more gigs from Black Summer!
