Heineken is set to debut an exciting new innovation at this year’s Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival, where the brand has maintained a long-standing sponsorship. The new device, called The Clinker, is designed to connect festival-goers through a shared love of music.
Research commissioned by Heineken® found that 97% of music fans globally believe music has the power to unite people, and more than half (55%) want to meet others with similar music tastes at live events. The Clinker was built with those insights in mind, celebrating music as a shared language and its unique ability to bring people together.
The Clinker is a smart band that wraps around Heineken cans and glasses, turning every “cheers” into a potential new friendship. The device syncs with fans’ streaming data to detect musical compatibility with a simple “clink” — when two cans touch, a compatibility light signals a match and allows users to connect on social media, transforming festival strangers into meaningful new connections.
Despite the inherently social nature of festivals, Heineken‘s research shows that while 77% of music fans have connected with someone at a live event, those interactions rarely last beyond the moment. The Clinker addresses this by helping fans find common ground instantly through shared music taste, enabling them to swap details and connect via its web-based app — turning spontaneous encounters into lasting friendships.
Coachella will serve as the first public experience where fans can try The Clinker, available exclusively on festival grounds at Heineken® House. The innovation is part of Heineken®‘s broader Fans Have More Friends platform, launched earlier this year to elevate fan experiences at major music and sporting events by turning shared fandom into a catalyst for real social connection.
Nabil Nasser, Global Head of the Heineken® Brand, said: “The Clinker is the latest of Heineken®‘s unique innovations, designed to facilitate new connections around shared passions. It’s another proof point of our belief that fans have more friends, and with thousands of music fans coming together from across the globe, Coachella felt like the natural place to unveil it. The Clinker makes it easier to start a conversation, enabling music fans to turn a simple ‘cheers’ into a conversation starter and a new connection that can extend beyond the festival field.”
