Burning Man 747 Bids Final Farewell to Black Rock City and Moves to Las Vegas

The 747 airplane art car that appeared at Burning Man for the last four years bid its final farewell last week to Black Rock City and arrived at its final destination in Las Vegas. Six Nevada Highway Patrol troopers escorted the plane’s upper fuselage during the 500 mile trip. Another piece is expected to move this Tuesday, November 5th. The plane was moving at a speed between 40 and 60 mph when it arrived in Las Vegas.  

Zappos, the online shoe retailer, purchased the plane earlier this year and covered the plane’s moving costs. The moving costs are estimated to be about $400,000, which includes labor, transportation, land lease, insurance and associated fees.

The plane will not return to Burning Man for a fifth year however it will be permanently displayed in Las Vegas where Zappos is headquartered. The plane was stranded post Burning Man 2018 and disrupted the surface of the playa prior to Zappos’ purchase.
