In a landmark transaction announced Wednesday, Create Music Group has acquired the extensive music catalog of renowned electronic artist Deadmau5 and his Mau5trap label in a deal exceeding $55 million. The comprehensive agreement encompasses over 4,000 songs, including both sound recordings and copyrights, while establishing a joint venture for future releases from both Deadmau5 and the Mau5trap label.
“I have worked closely with Jonathan, Alex and Create for nearly two decades now, building my own career as well as the artists on mau5trap,” stated Deadmau5, whose real name is Joel Zimmerman.

Since beginning his musical journey in 2005, Zimmerman has established himself as a dominant figure in electronic music circles and a vocal proponent of artist rights and ownership. Under his leadership, the Mau5trap label has launched the careers of notable artists including Skrillex, Rezz, Noisia, Feed Me, and i_o.

The partnership outlines an ambitious “robust multi-platform strategy” that includes remastering and re-releasing signature works from the catalog, developing exclusive content, and implementing innovative marketing approaches to introduce Mau5trap’s legacy to younger audiences. Additionally, the collaboration will explore various revenue opportunities through licensing deals, brand partnerships, and emerging digital platforms such as gaming, virtual reality, and live streaming.
