Fred Again at the Shrine LA review

Last Saturday night was an unforgettable journey into the heart of musical euphoria as we found ourselves amidst the electrifying atmosphere of The Shrine in Los Angeles. Our destination? The thrilling record-breaking spectacle of UK artist Fred again..’s sold-out extravaganza – a mind-blowing eight-show marathon that has already seen a jaw-dropping 40,000 tickets fly into the hands of ecstatic fans, according to Billboard.

For the second time in just two years (not counting his unforgettable Coachella performance alongside Four Tet and Skrillex), Fred again… graced the City of Angels with his presence, and it’s abundantly clear that LA has an immense love affair with this visionary artist. But what truly set this night apart was the explosive energy of the crowd.

The Shrine pulsated with a diverse sea of people, united by a singular purpose – to let go, dance like there’s no tomorrow, and have an absolute blast. Whether you were a seasoned raver or a first-time concert-goer, the shared love for music created an indomitable bond, and joy was the only rule of the night.

But of course, no Fred Again show is complete without the man himself exuding infectious energy and enthusiasm. He didn’t just perform; he was a conductor of euphoria. His interactions with the audience, spontaneous dance moves that brought smiles, and heartfelt thank-yous painted a picture of an artist who lives and breathes his craft. The love he exuded was impossible to resist. Mid-show, he introduced us to his undoubtedly proud parents seated at the heart of the crowd’s intimate stage setup.

Throughout the set, Fred again.. was perfectly complemented by the skills of Tony Friend, who, since his debut as the on-stage DJ in 2021, provided live samples for Fred to weave into his sonic tapestry.

Kicking off the night was Sam Gellaitry, who treated us to a delightful journey through a selection of classic house and electro dance tracks. The show, originally slated to start around 9:45 pm, kicked off fashionably late at 10:10 pm, but that did nothing to dampen the spirits of the eager crowd. In fact, it was a testament to the unrelenting demand for these extraordinary shows, with official resale tickets fetching prices in the $200-$300 range.

The music journey began with the soul-stirring “Kyle (I found you),” and from there, it was a wild ride through “Turn On the Lights,” seamlessly fused with “Junge” and “Rumble,” as Fred sampled the crowd’s energy and wove it into “Jungle” again. The night’s crescendo led us to the irresistible “Angie (I’ve been lost),” and as the final notes reverberated into the night, the crowd dispersed, leaving a trail of pure satisfaction and happiness in their wake.
