Last week, Insomniac Events shipped roughly 750 tents from the company’s Las Vegas warehouse to Grand Bahama and Abaco islands to house nearly 5,000 displaced survivors from the Category 5 storm. Previously occupied by Electric Daisy Carnival festival attendees, the weather-resistant shelters are equipped with electricity outlets and air conditioning, and can fit up to 11 people at 144 square feet.
“Insomniac strives to bring happiness to millions of people around the world. When we got the call to help with this relief effort, we didn’t hesitate,” Insomniac founder and CEO Pasquale Rotella said in a statement. “Creating family shelter communities is something we knew we could provide both expertise and resources for.”
The donation was made in response to a call from the Love & Life Foundation in Florida. Insomniac has spent over $1 million to ship and repurpose the shelters, and has indicated that the donation is permanent, with the tents expected to last one to three years.
