Wajatta, a blend of the names of its duo founders comedian and musician Reggie Watts and producer John Tejada, has just released their debut single “Runnin'”
The track has influences of Detroit techno as well as Chicago house with a strong male vocal from Watts, which was later sliced and diced as part of the song creation process.
Watts who can be seen as the band leader on James Corden’s late night tv show, said of the process to Billboard:
“I have so many loops stored and we pulled them in that sessions, picking and choosing. And then he went in and really attacked it, and I just laid down a bunch of random vocals.” Watts said he and Tejada had a similar creative process and work quickly, “being able to just flow what was in my head in response to his music and him locking onto that and crafting something great around/with it.”
