New Laurent Garnier Documentary to be Released in July

A new documentary about Laurent Garnier, the famous French DJ, is soon to be released. Titled Laurent Garnier: Off the Record, it is set to premier in London on July 9, at BFI Southbank. The premier will include a Q&A session with artist and an after party, which will be held at the Spiritland Royal Festival Hall. The movie will receive a wider UK release in cinemas and on-demand services on July 15. Laurent Garnier: Off the Record will be available for streaming on Amazon Video, iTunes, and Doc’n Roll TV.

The documentary was produced by Doc’n Roll, which specializes in music documentaries. It was directed by Gabin Rivoire. Rivoire gives the audience an intimate look at key moments in Garnier’s career, from his 1987 debut at The Hacienda to his support of the developing French electro scene and the founding of F Communication. The documentary is a mix for archive footage, new video recordings, and film from one of Garnier’s world tours. It includes interviews with legends like Peggy Gou, Kitten, Richie Hawtin, The Blessed Madonna, and more.

In addition to the documentary’s focus on Garnier, it also examines the history of club culture, including the club scenes of New York, Detroit, London, and other important places. Rivoire includes an examination of how authorities have tried to suppress club culture in the past and how such efforts are ongoing today.

A trailer for the documentary was recently released. When Laurent Garnier: Off the Record was screened at last year’s festivals, it received widespread praise.
