Serato Corporation Bought by AlphaTheta

Although they will continue to function as separate brands, the AlphaTheta Corporation has taken ownership of Serato. AlphaTheta is now the parent company to Pioneer DJ, rekordbox and Serato.

The collaboration of the companies started in 2012 with the release of Serato hardware compatible with Pioneer DJ controllers. Pioneer Dj has since been compatible with numerous other Serato software, along with their own called rekordbox.

“the continuation of their longstanding partnerships with key players in the DJ hardware and software industry.”

AlphaTheta

Although they have worked together in the past, Serato and AlphaTheta will continue to function as separate brands. This acquisition is the last in a trend of consolidation within the last months. InMusic, the company that owns DJ and audio equipment, has bought out Moog Music. This includes all of their branding such as Denon, Alesis, Marantz and others.

“Serato has enjoyed a 25 year history of success that is driven by a single-minded focus on serving DJs, producers and artists. We are incredibly proud of both the strength of our business as well as the community that surrounds our brand. Today, we are excited to deepen our long-standing partnership with AlphaTheta, accelerating how we create value for our users and the industry.”

Ceo of Serato

Pioneer DJ Corporation originally had AlphaTheta as a division of their brand when they started in 1994. Since then, the company has changed names and hands, becoming AlphaTheta corporation and being sold by KKR equity firm to Noritsu for $606 million.

Before the merger, Serato announced its DAW, Serato Studio 2.0., where Pioneer DJ announced CDJ-3000 can stream music from Beatport now. The acquisition of Serato is seemed to lead to big things for both corporations.
