It was recently announced that Steve Aoki’s documentary ‘I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead’ will be released exclusively on Netflix on August 19th. Thanks to Netflix’s popularity, the documentary will have a global release in homes in over 190 countries around the world. The film premiered to a sold out audience at the Tribeca Film Festival this past spring.
Aoki says about his Netflix partnership, “I’m beyond proud, humbled and excited that ‘I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead’ will be released as a Netflix documentary. As a longtime Netflix binger, it’s a dream come true to have my documentary featured alongside such other prestigious original content. Being a truly global platform, Netflix will allow the film to reach my fans all over the world on every imaginable screen.”
The Dim Mak label head shot the film ‘I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead’ over three years during the making of his ‘Neon Future’ double album. The documentary follows Aoki’s journey to play the main stage of Tomorrowland in Belgium and centers around his family home life in Japan, especially his relationship with his father, Rocky Aoki, who is a former Olympian, daredevil athlete, and Benihana restaurant tycoon. The film also features contemporaries and musicians such as will.i.am, Pete Tong, Travis Barker, Laidback Luke, Afrojack, Tiesto, and Diplo.
