XO Festival (aka Fyre Festival 2.0) canceled

The XO Festival set for (and we use those words loosely) this upcoming weekend has been canceled after the venue, the Contra Costa Event Park, proactively canceled the event after the promoters did not live up to the terms of the contract.

Various industry parties have been quoted for months their skepticism that the event would happen after the promoter had no track record, the website was filled with photos from other actual events and several booking said they had not been paid.

The official press release states:

“Due to promoters lack of fulfilling contractual obligations between the Contra Costa Event Park and World Class Entertainment, Event Park Management in the best interest and safety of our facility, event attendees and the City of Antioch have no choice but to cancel the XO Music Festival.”

Ticketholders are told to email info@xoxomusicfestival.com and sams@xoxomusicfestival.com for refunds.

One of the huge red flags for this event was the following disclaimer the the organizers can:

“cancel the Festival without further legal or financial obligation or liability to you, including the obligation to issue You a refund or to reschedule the Festival.”

Yesterday the organizers posted that the festival was canceled due to low ticket sales and told KQED radio station in an email that if canceled, all presale tickets would be refunded by the ticketing company, GrowTix. This statement was later removed from the XO Festival website.

The music industry news site Amplify was one of the first to raise concerns back in April and has confirmed that ticketholders have been refunded.

Old school rapper Vanilla Ice’s reps stated that the performer would not be at the event unless full pre-payment of his fee was made and freestyle legend Trinere pulled out earlier this week.

SF rapper TroyLLF was told he would have to buy a ticket to the event after promising to perform for free.

The original flyer with the talent ‘booked’ is present below for posterity:
