Awakenings is Coming to America!

SFX Entertainment recently announced that the Danish techno festival, Awakenings, will launch in the North American market. The decision was based on the success of Awakenings events over the last eighteen years throughout Europe. Awakenings will make their US debut with their own stage at the Electric Zoo Festival over Labor Day weekend in New York City. Awakenings will also have a West Coast festival later this year. EDM Life will keep you posted about the date.

Awakenings was discovered by Rocco Veenboer in 1997. He plans on bringing events from Awakenings to cities throughout the United States by next year. “Bringing Awakenings to North America, the place that gave me the most inspiration to start organizing in the early days, is a dream turned into reality,” says Veenboer. “This was always a part of my vision, so I’m very excited to finally come and do it!”

Awakenings initially was as an indoor event at the Gashouder in Amsterdam, and over the years has grown into the the largest outdoor two-day techno festival with over 70,000 attendees the last weekend of June on the grounds of Spaarnwoude. Awakenings’ artists are techno legends like Richie Hawtin, Adam Beyer, and Sven Väth.

“It’s an honor to be the first festival in North America to host the Awakenings brand, loved by techno fans worldwide,” says Michael Julian, Director of Marketing at Made Event, the company behind Electric Zoo. “We expect thousands of techno tourists to descend upon NYC to welcome Awakenings.”
