Burning Man 2024 Updates

In unfortunate news, a 2024 attendee was found yesterday deceased only a mere few hours after the event officially opened (people have been on site for a few weeks for setup). The cause of death was not immediately know.

In other news, for the first time in at least 10 years, Burning Man did not sell out and tickets are available today for the festival that runs through Saturday night with people generally departing next Sunday and Monday. If you want to make a last minute trip out, tickets are available here.

Due to the rare availability of tickets even today, those that bought tickets at face price earlier this year  via the official online sales are taking huge losses with many people selling their tickets for as low as $200 versus the face price of $575 plus $55.75 in service fees, making for a $400+ loss for those just trying to sell their ticket. Those faced with this situation are trying to make the best of it knowing someone will be attending the burn at a deeply discounted cost.

The lack of a sellout is attributed to the flooding seen in 2023 which turned the event into a giant mud put and the prior year saw excessive heat which baked the attendees for days. Also the we suspect the average age of a burner is increasing and not that many new attendees are filling the places of those who have aged out due to other obligations or attending many years.

It what appeared to be a nod to increase interest in the event, Burning Man allowed the various sound camps to publicly put out their dj lineups a week earlier than usual this year. Some of those are shown below.
