It’s been just over one year since the booze-soaked, model-endorsed fiasco unfolded, two scathing documentaries have released via Netflix and Hulu investigating the head-scratching series of events that ultimately led to its failure, and the saga of the elusive Fyre Festival continues. Founder and convicted con-artist Billy McFarland has made headlines again, this time by his own accord.
Reportedly, while he’s not busy mingling with the likes of fellow inmate Jersey Shore’s Mike “The Situation” Sorrentino in prison, McFarland has been working on his memoir, to be modestly titled, “Promythus: The God of Fyre”. Alleged girlfriend Anastasia Eremenko has stated that the documentaries “misrepresented the real events and Billy would like to share his story,” Josh Raab, a freelance editor approached by Eremeko, told New York Magazine.
Regarding plans for the future of Fyre Festival, McFarland referenced his self-proclaimed inspiration Jordan Belfort (the money-laundering and fraud-committing stockbroker and subject of Martin Scorsese’s The Wolf of Wall Street), “Putting in terms of Wolf of Wall Street, the festival will not be a one and done event — it’s happening again, so the original story will lose the potential to be told and set the stage if it’s not done before the next events take place.” McFarland is currently serving a six year sentence for mail and wire fraud, set to be released in 2024.
