Is Ibiza Banning Beach Clubs?

The Balearic Parliament approved an amendment this week to the General Tourism Law that would prohibit the opening of new beach clubs on Ibiza. The amendment gives the power to the island consells “to condition, regulate or ban” tourist entertainment activities. Due to the amendment to the law, the consells going forward will decide whether or not to ban or regulate beach clubs. The Consell de Ibiza will meet with the municipalities to hear what they want to do with the beach clubs. Beach clubs that are already open and operating cannot be banned because the law is not retroactive. Ibiza officials have said that they would prefer beach clubs being linked to food rather than with music.
