Apple Music’s One Mix series has tapped Above & Beyond for its newest installment, an ongoing project that hands the spotlight to some of dance music’s most respected DJs. The trio’s contribution runs an hour, captured entirely in Spatial Audio, and pulls from every corner of their catalog — kicking off with 2006 debut ‘Tri-State’ and carrying through to ‘Bigger Than All Of Us,’ their newest album.
Jono Grant, Paavo Siljamäki, and Tony McGuinness didn’t want to just string together a highlight reel. Instead, they pulled up the raw multitrack sessions from throughout their history and reworked them for Spatial Audio, a process that unearthed layers — hidden harmonies, textures buried in the mix, subtle production flourishes — that never quite came through in the original stereo versions. The result reframes songs longtime fans already know without erasing what made those songs connect in the first place.
“This is a retrospective mix featuring music of ours from the last 25 years, from ‘Tri-State’ to ‘Bigger Than All Of Us,’ and all points in between,” the group said of the project. “It’s been very revealing to deep dive into old projects, remembering the parts that aren’t so obvious in the stereo mix, that become players in the Spatial Audio mix.”
The One Mix isn’t Above & Beyond’s first collaboration with the platform. They previously sat down with Zane Lowe on Apple Music 1 for a wide-ranging conversation tied to ‘Bigger Than All Of Us,’ touching on everything from mental health to the tight-knit fan community that’s grown up around the band over the years.
Spanning fifteen songs total, the mix works chronologically through fan favorites — “Don’t Leave,” “Can’t Sleep,” “Blue Monday,” “We’re All We Need,” “Sun & Moon,” “Northern Soul,” “Blue Sky Action,” and “Walter White” — before landing on more recent cuts like “Gratitude,” “Quicksand (Don’t Go),” “Start A Fire,” and the title track from ‘Bigger Than All Of Us.’ A reimagined 2025 version of “Good For Me” closes things out, bridging the band’s earliest work with where they are today.
The band described the process as more than a technical exercise. Revisiting these tracks meant reconnecting with songs that have soundtracked countless fan memories over the years, and hearing them reframed through Spatial Audio brought out melodic and vocal details neither the group nor their audience had fully noticed before. It’s a mix that manages to feel both nostalgic and newly discovered at once.
Fans simply know them as Jono, Tony, and Paavo, but Above & Beyond has spent the last twenty years as one of electronic music’s defining acts. Beyond founding Anjunabeats and Anjunadeep and hosting the weekly Group Therapy radio show, the group holds two GRAMMY nominations (for “Northern Soul” and “We’re All We Need”) and landed their fourth album, ‘Common Ground,’ at number three on the Billboard 200 in 2018. Q Magazine once dubbed them “the world’s biggest cult band” — a title earned through sold-out runs at Madison Square Garden, the Hollywood Bowl, Sydney Opera House, Royal Albert Hall, and Red Rocks, along with their own self-produced festivals at Huntington Beach and The Gorge Amphitheatre.
