Beatport announced today that it will broadcast a live, 24-hour worldwide DJ marathon in partnership with Twitch starting this Friday, March 27th at 8pm GMT. Twenty-four artists will be performing from their studios or homes from around the world. The streaming event will provide a platform aimed to unite the global electronic music community while supporting charities representing those most in need during these unprecedented times.
Beatport’s CEO, Robb McDaniels, released the following statement:
“Over the past few weeks, we have seen so much of humanity come together as one to battle the escalation of the Covid-19 virus in an effort to protect the most vulnerable. With so many of us sheltered in our homes, wanting to stay connected to the people and music that plays such a positive role in our lives, Beatport and the passionate DJ community we work with on a daily basis feel compelled to deliver a unique music experience directly into homes across the world.”Â
Â
Viewers of the Twitch live stream will be able to make donations where the money will be going directly to help people most impacted by the global crisis. The donations will be administered by the
Association For Electronic Music (AFEM) to be distributed to the AFEM Members COVID-19 Hardship fund, and the COVID-19 Solidarity Response Fund for WHO. Beatport will be working with industry partners for merchandise and gear giveaways randomly selected to donors during the live stream. Beatport will also be providing track IDs on Twitch as songs are played so listeners can purchase music in support of the independent labels and artists.
