HARD Summer, L.A.’s largest electronic dance music festival, announced the dates for 2014 as well as some interesting news of a new home for the hugely popular dance music event that saw 70,000 people attend last year. This year, HARD will be held on the weekend of August 2nd and 3rd and promises to be “harder, groovier, hotter, wilder, bolder, and bigger” than ever before.

Even more exciting news is that this year sees a new home for all HARD events as the Los Angeles State Historic Park which usually houses them is being upgraded in an $18m renovation. The new home will be in the Whittier Narrows Recreation Area in South El Monte which is 13 miles east of the old Chinatown location.  In a press release about the move, HARD CEO Gary Richards said “It’s such a great park with more room to do things that have not been possible for HARD in the past.”

The question is though, what will replace the stunning Downtown L.A. skyline that graced past hard events?

Speaking of SoCal promoters, Insomniac’s CEO, Pasquale Rotella today announced via his Facebook account is that San Manuel Amphitheatre will no longer used for the large events it’s accustomed to. He said, “It’s a beautiful location, it’s clear that it cannot handle our larger Insomniac festivals right now.” So the question now is where will Beyond, Nocturnal, and Escape from Wonderland be held instead?

One other thing Pasquale posted on Facebook involved a tip of the hat to the HARD team, saying, “an exciting announcement about our brother festival, HARD Summer today.” The rumors are flowing with this one. Can we expect a combined HARD/Insomniac event? Watch this space…
