Major Ibiza Nightclub Drama with Amnesia, Privilege, Pacha and Marco Carola!

Clubland is always entertaining and clubwars in Ibiza fit that bill.

Several months ago news from the white isle dropped that Amnesia and Privilege were being fined by local authorities for unauthorized construction and a block on opening was placed. Fines such as these are not uncommon and the general thought was that both clubs would have the issues resolved in time for their summer 2019 openings. Amnesia appears to have satisfied the hold on reopening with their opening party scheduled for later this month.

Privilege however, while showing an opening party for June 8th, is said to not have completed the work necessary.  In addition and even more relevant is that the nightclub is said to be 100% owned now by the The Matutes Group (also owners of Ushuaia, Hi, etc.) after being a minority owner for several years. The property was being operated by a different party for the last several years, Baltanxa.  According to reports, recently there was a sale of Baltanxa’s remaining interest in the property via an option to buy the balance of the company as part of the Matutes’ initial investment agreement. Baltanxa however still runs the venue and has taken to the Spanish courts to keep operating the venue.  At this time, it is unknown if Baltanxa will be willing or able to take the steps to satisfy the San Antonio Council which governs this property.  This of course puts one of the most well known parties on the island, Ultra’s Resistance brand techno party at risk of not taking place! We shall see how this pans out.

And it other major Ibiza club news, after the surprising news that Marco Carola was taking his Music On brand from Amnesia to the Pacha Groups flagship nightclub and Destino, Amnesia has not hit back by filing a lawsuit asking the courts prevent Carola from moving. Earlier this month the courts sided with Amnesia, saying that if Carola is to play any events outside of Amnesia, he is liable for penalties up to $2.4 million euros!
