NYC Police Detectives Indicted for stealing champagne bottles at Electric Zoo!

Last year a couple of NYC Detectives working the Electric Zoo Music Festival decided to walk off with a couple of bottles of Ace of Spades champagne valued at $2,900.

The bottles were ordered by a VIP table customer and the detectives took the bottles and placed them in a bag when the customers at the table left temporarily.

Luckily two festival attendees saw the theft and informed a security guard who then took back the bottles and returned them to the VIP table customers. The security guard informed their supervisor who informed the NYPD which led to the investigation. The two detectives are being charged with 4th degree grand larceny (a felony) and criminal possession of stolen property. Another detective as charged with official misconduct (believed to be for not stopping the theft).

The NYPD told Billboard magazine regarding the theft:

As a result of the continuing joint investigation with the Internal Affairs Bureau and the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office, two NYPD officers were arrested and subsequently suspended from duty today. The NYPD will continue to pursue the facts in this investigation and initiate further discipline where appropriate.
