ORIGIN Los Angeles Sets Grand Opening Weekend for October 9-10 With MRAK and Kölsch

Downtown LA’s Arts District is getting a new home for electronic music. ORIGIN Los Angeles has locked in its grand opening weekend for Friday, October 9 and Saturday, October 10, kicking things off with MRAK on opening night, followed by a Saturday daytime party from Malive + Liva K and a Saturday night set from Kölsch. Presale signup is open now, with general tickets available at originlosangeles.com.

Built around an underground-first philosophy while staying accessible and polished, ORIGIN is positioning itself as more than a one-off venue — the team behind it describes a long-term plan to turn the space into a genuine cultural institution in Southern California. Opening night belongs to MRAK, the solo live project of Carmine Conte, who’s spent over a decade as one half of Tale Of Us and co-founded the influential Afterlife label and event series. Saturday flips the format entirely: Brazil’s Malive and Greece’s Liva K headline the venue’s first daytime event, before Kölsch takes the room into the night.

The venue itself continues the industrial space at 613 Imperial Street, reworked into an indoor/outdoor setup built to move fluidly between club nights, live shows, promoter-run events, private bookings, and larger cultural programming. Weekly, that means Fridays leaning toward top-tier and independent electronic bookings, while Saturdays alternate between outdoor daytime parties and late-night house and techno sets. Beyond the regular calendar, ORIGIN is also set to anchor quarterly Arts District events, starting with this year’s edition of THE MAZE, which is relocating to the Arts District after two sold-out runs at Union Station. That Halloween block party brings a live set from French duo The Blaze, an Arcade Fire DJ set featuring Win Butler and Paul Beaubrun, a set from Claude VonStroke, and a special installation honoring the late Kavinsky.

The people behind ORIGIN aren’t newcomers to LA nightlife. Founders Roni Mehrabian and Cyril Bitar previously built SBCLTR and Minimal Effort, and have a hand in event brands including LABYRINTO, Brunch Electronik, THE MAZE, FLOAT, and Resolutions — more than two decades of combined experience shaping the city’s dance music scene. On the production side, ORIGIN features design work from Marc Dizon, whose credits include Brooklyn Mirage, Output New York, Hakkasan Las Vegas, and Sound Los Angeles, paired with a custom analog KV2 Audio system tuned specifically for the room, plus a separate outdoor rig engineered to hold sound quality in open-air conditions.
