Pepe of ‘Space Ibiza’ loses in court the Spanish rights to the trademark ‘Space’

So, get this – there’s been some major drama going down in Ibiza’s club scene. You know Space Ibiza, right? That legendary nightclub? Well, its founder, Pepe Roselló, just got hit with a pretty tough court ruling.

Basically, this big hotel company called Fiesta Hotels & Resorts – it’s owned by this powerful Matutes who own clubs and venues across the white isle – and they’ve been duking it out with Roselló over who gets to use the “Space” name. And now, a court in Valencia has sided with the hotel folks.

Here’s the deal: The judge says Roselló’s 2008 trademark for “Space Ibiza” is a no-go because it’s too similar to one the hotel company filed way back in ’91. It’s not just the main club name either – we’re talking all the spinoffs like Space Dance Barcelona, Space Beach Club, you name it.

Now, the hotel group isn’t messing around. Word on the street is they shut down Space Ibiza’s monthly party at Eden in San Antonia. But Roselló and his crew? They’re not backing down without a fight. They’re planning to appeal this thing.

This whole mess goes way back. Roselló actually rented the original club space from the Matutes family in ’89, ran it until 2016 when it closed. Now that spot’s home to Hï Ibiza, another massive club owned by the same hotel group.

Since Space closed, Roselló’s been throwing parties all over Europe using the Space Ibiza name. But with this ruling? Who knows what’s gonna happen next. It’s like a soap opera, but with more techno.
