SMOG CITY NORTH AMERICA TOUR 2014
12th Planet
Protohype
with Antiserum, DLX, Flinch, HeRobust,
Son of Kick, SPL, Starkey, Steady & Two Fresh
“Los Angeles bass factory SMOG Records may be deeply associated with the city that its founder 12th Planet calls home, but those early adopters of dubstep have found kin all over, especially as the style is absorbed into the ever-shifting image of electronic music in 2013.” — SPIN.com
12th Planet and his influential SMOG Records crew are kicking off 2014 by bringing the freshest genre-bending bass music across North America with the 38-date SMOG City Tour this January and February. The SMOG City Tour sees some of bass music’s foremost pioneers team up with the hottest new artists, as Antiserum, DLX, Flinch, HeRobust, Protohype, Son of Kick, SPL, Starkey, Steady and Two Fresh join in to shatter dancefloors from Jacksonville to Seattle, showcasing SMOG as America’s tastemaking bass label — one that continues to push the frontier of new music and pave new paths. As Mixmag recently noted, “[SMOG] has pioneered dubstep and high-power bass music in America and is one of the genre’s key outposts in the country, breaking new artists and throwing mad parties.”
12th Planet – 12th Planet is the electronic music pioneer whose off-axis beats and subsonic frequencies orbit on the forefront of global bass culture. Check out his latest track “Smoked Out” on Mixmag.
Antiserum – At the vanguard of forward-thinking bass music, Antiserum’s releases on SMOG and Caspa’s Dub Police have established him as a mainstay of sub-heavy music. Check out his anthemic track “Horn Dog” with collaborator Mayhem on ThisSongIsSick.com.
DLX – Known as “the mad scientist of drum arrangements”, DLX blends funk with elements of jungle, breakbeat and early dubstep, giving it a modern edge. Check out his percussive track “Running Late Night” on KMag.
Flinch – Just named OC Weekly’s #1 Best Local EDM Artist of 2013, Flinch is the veteran producer who consistently delivers a wide selection of cuts riding between the UK funky, club, moombahton, techno, garage, and dubstep genre lines.
HeRobust – One of VIBE’s “30 DJs To Watch In 2014,” HeRobust is an electronic producer from Atlanta whose hip-hop inspired bass music has quickly garnered the attention from tastemakers everywhere, with his recent “SHEKNOWSHEBAD” named a “certified trap anthem” by VIBE.
Son of Kick – Also deemed one of VIBE’s “30 DJs to Watch In 2014,”  Son of Kick is the London-based artist whose recent track “Reloaded” is described by Mixmag as “a deep, dark, trap-inspired track that is full of space and humming bouts of bass.”
SPL – Virtuoso producer SPL is the creator of his forward-thinking “Balearic Bass” sound, which “combines the ultra-technical dips and drops of modern-day dubstep with melodies inspired by early rave and chillout room classics,” according to THUMP.
Starkey – Philadelphia’s Starkey is a formidable force not only in the underground but also a super producer of the future who blends grime, dubstep, hip-hop, ambient and more into his own ‘street bass’ genre, with a frightening attention to detail and hard lean towards a space age aesthetic. His latest track, “Stroll,” is described as a “Frankenstein-like club crusher” by SPIN.com.
Steady – Steady is a solid contributor to West Coast dubstep whose productions and performances propel the sound forward in the studio and at filthy parties everywhere.
Two Fresh – Denver-based Two Fresh, comprised of twin brothers Sherwyn and Kendrick Nicholls, are the unique electronic production team whose releases span the musical spectrum early 90’s hip-hop to more spacey and upbeat sounds. Their hugely popular “Throw That” with HeRobust is available for free download on RollingStone.com.
SMOG is one of the founding brands in the North American dubstep and bass music movement. Originally an event production company based in Los Angeles, SMOG has expanded into a record label, artist development hub, and lifestyle brand. With MTV calling the crew a “pioneering incubator of bass music in America,” SMOG is widely credited for bringing the British movement stateside, and continues to be a crucial force in the evolution of electronic music. Fresh off the release of the ‘SMOG City Volume 2’ compilation, SMOG has earned recent attention from SPIN, Billboard, Pitchfork, Fact Mag, Mixmag and many more. SMOG continues to produce top quality events in Los Angeles and beyond, always pushing forward as an internationally recognized leader in U.S. bass music. ‘SMOG City Volume 2’ is out now and available on iTunesBeatport and at all major online music retailers.
