Tourists stabbed at Tulum ANTS party

For much of the last decade, the BPM Festival in Playa del Carmen dominated the month of January with an epic lineup of house and techno parties.

After the shooting at the 2017 BPM event at the Blue Parrot nightclub (see: 2017 BPM Shooting Update, Impact (Banned from Returning?) and DJ statements), BPM was cancelled going forward (since relocating to Costa Rica for 2020).

Due to the large number of attendees for BPM, unofficial satellite parties began to spring up in Tulum and those have carried on through today with some having thousands of attendees for artists such as Solomun and Tale of Us.

Unfortunately earlier this week, according to media reports, there was a stabbing at the Cenote Casa Tortuga venue due to what appears to me a case of mistaken identity at the ANTS party where local drug dealers confused several clubbers as being rival drug dealers. The stabbed individuals were taken to the hospital, one with life threatening injuries however they are still in the hospital at press time.

On Tuesday night the Vatos Lacos event with Deep Dish, Hector and more was cancelled along with tonight’s Children of the Sun event and future events through the 13th.

We hope that this is an isolated incident as this week’s event in Tulum have been nothing but spectacular in terms of music and the beaches.
