[FONT=arial]Guy Gerber is one of dance music’s outliers, never being content to exist within a clear set of parameters, continually stretching and stressing his musical identity. After being named Resident Advisor’s no.2 live act of 2012, he promptly switched to performing mainly as a DJ. In 2013 he’s subverting the VIP direction of Ibiza, with his Wisdom Of The Glove residency, at the island’s most glittery and storied venue, Pacha.
Gerber does not tread an easy path, it is one charted in his diverse discography. Alliances with power-houses like Cocoon, Cadenza and Visionquest remain just that, tantalizing short-lived glimpses into Gerber’s musical working. Only on his own label, Supplement Facts, has he created a consistent home for himself, yet the label’s output is indicative of Gerber’s singular blend of idiosyncrasy, with releases coming from Til Von Sein, Kate Simko, Chaim, dOP, No Regular Play to name but a few.
Taking a short break from his summer on Ibiza, Gerber is making a five date Independence Day tour of North America, which includes headlining spots at Chicago’s Wavefront Music Festival, the opening event of Verboten’s new outdoor NYC party series at StageONE on July 4, and Montreal’s Piknic Elecktronik.
The tour is sure to provide an intriguing insight into the shape his new Ibiza residency is taking. With appearances at Wisdom Of The Glove slated for the likes of Chromatics, John Talabot, Four Tet, Cajmere, Matthew Dear and Benoit + Sergio, audiences can safely expect Gerber’s emotionally charged performances to continue to captivate, while evading easy categorization.
