This past weekend coinciding with WMC and Ultra, Sirius XM announced that fan favorite dance channel Electric Area was being replaced by a Diplo-curated station focusing more on a cross section of dance, hip hop, reggae and more. While Diplo is of course a huge presence in the industry and more than likely dance fans who subscribe to Sirius would have been happy adding this channel, instead it replaced Electric Area and its eclectic mix of radio shows from many of the top djs and groups in EDM.

Social media comments on Facebook and Twitter have been harsh and Gareth Emery, who does not have a show at the moment so its unbiased, expressed his disappointment at losing the channel:
Just found out Electric Area has been replaced by the Diplo channel.
In other words: America just lost the by far best dance music radio station that they had.
I am f*cking gutted about this and you should be too.

Diplo’s reply which somewhat encouragingly suggests some of the mix shows may stay:
I loved electric area as well! I had a show on the channel for many years. I think you might be interested in giving my station a chance. we are keeping may of the same dj shows and just diversifying the range a bit to differ from BPM, we still getting a groove, so just wait ?
