With 2020 quickly becoming a bust for the live music scene, festivals have pretty much given up on salvaging the rest of the year and setting their sights on the 2021 season, as is the case with Tomorrowland, the wildly popular Belgian electronic dance music festival held in Boom, Belgium.
No dates have been announced yet, but word on the street is that they are considering this option.
“A third weekend for Tomorrowland could be a solution for everyone involved to make up for the completely lost 2020 season and all its consequences. But, that is still a distant future in the current circumstances and nothing has been discussed or decided yet,” said festival spokesperson Debby Wilmsen.
Tomorrowland, EDC Las Vegas and Ultra Miami along with millions of dance fans took a major hit when the festivals were all cancelled/postponed this year due to the coronavirus pandemic.
As for 2021, the festival season is still a big question mark, with Coachella still on hold as are other festivals. Earlier this week, the Miami City Commission did not take a vote on approving Ultra Music Festival for next March.
Tomorrowland’s spokesperson, Debbie Wilmsen expressed what many organizers around the world are likely thinking as they develop and adjust their plans, “We are waiting to see how the situation will evolve in the coming months. Like governments, we cannot see very far into the future at the moment.”
The buzz now is looking ahead to 2021 since this year has been a wash. Eric Prydz has already confirmed his Holosphere for 2021 at Tomorrowland. Fingers crossed for the future and being together again!
