Between the release of “Hi This is Flume”, oft-referred to as his most ambitious project yet (surpassed only by his viral Burning Man stunt), his Quits EP and his single “Let You Know” with London Grammer, 2019 has been a hell of a year for the Sydney-born producer. Now he’s back with another female-vocal adorned track, reuniting with fellow Aussie artist Vera Blue (“My Boo” (2016)) on “Rushing Back”. Vera Blue’s intoxicating melodies laced with feather-weight falsettos leads into an as-of-recent favorite screechy synth (re: “Let You Know”, “Jewel”) and compressed drum groove for a proper Flume drop.
“[Harley] threw me a bunch of ideas and I was riffing over the songs, just humming melodies that came to my head based on how the song made me feel,” Vera Blue, aka Celia Pavey, explains. “There were a couple of ideas I resonated with but I really fell in love with this one as soon as I heard the first few chords, which eventually blossomed into [Rushing Back].”
